Some comments on the St John Singers singing of Stainer's 'Crucifixion' in St Thomas's Church, Salisbury being the choir's twenty fifth consecutive year of singing this work in different churches in the Diocese:
I really enjoyed being a part of an excellent performance. I think the St John Singers are very good indeed.
I felt I must write to congratulate the choir on its performance last night. It has certainly reached a very high standard and long may it continue. I don't know how many times I have heard The Crucifixion now but no choir could have put more meaning and expression into the words and music than the St John Singers did.
We all agree that we enjoyed it tremendously to be part of this 'performance' and found it very moving indeed.
It was a very uplifting occasion
I must pass on everyone's thanks for such a moving and musical performance last night. There were so many compliments on every aspect of the evening. Several people said they didnt want to go home to the hustle and bustle but wanted to stay "in the bubble"
We were both so moved emotionally.
That was a most moving performance of Stainer’s Crucifixion last night, greatly appreciated by a large congregation. Your soloists were, as ever, faultless. Twenty five years is quite a record and to maintain that standard of performance is hugely commendable. Well done, indeed.
